Snowmobile.is (Arctic Adventures) · Langjökull east side, Geldingafell
From Reykjavík by super jeep or monster truck to Langjökull, where you ride a shared snowmobile to a natural blue ice cave that the guides find fresh each winter. Pick it if you want real glacier ice, not a man-made tunnel, and you're happy with a long day.

Natural ice caves in Langjökull are formed by meltwater and change every year. Before winter, Arctic Adventures' guides search the glacier for a new one; the cave found in October 2025 was named Neptune. This tour, sold under the Snowmobile.is name, picks you up in Reykjavík early (guests report 7:30), drives past the Golden Circle sights, swaps into a monster truck at base camp and puts you on snowmobiles for the ride to the cave.
The listing says one hour on the snowmobile, two per machine. In practice the cave sits in the middle of the ride, so the hour includes the stop: you ride out, spend about 15 minutes inside the cave, and ride back. Two low-star reviews felt short-changed, one counting 6 km of riding in total, the other only 10 to 15 minutes each. Most guests loved it anyway, and the ride back is usually the longer, faster leg.
This is a 10-hour day, mostly in vehicles, for $387. The cave can be busy, with groups of up to 32 taking turns, and it's a seasonal feature: it depends on winter conditions, so check what your date includes. If you'd rather a reliable tunnel open all year, the Into the Glacier combo is the alternative.
Look for the Arctic Adventures or Adventures.is cars. The pickup round can take up to 30 minutes.
Past Þingvellir and Geysir to base camp, where you get your suit, gloves, goggles and helmet.
Up to where the snowmobiles wait, then the safety briefing.
Snowmobile out to the cave, about 15 minutes inside, then a longer ride back.
Return to base camp and drive home, around 10 hours after pickup.
★★★★★We stopped off at an ice cave where we were shown inside, given an interesting explanation about the cave and allowed plenty of time for self-exploration and pictures. Then it was back on the snowmobiles for a longer and very fun ride back to the start.
★★★★★He was very patient with all of us (none of whom had ever ridden snowmobiles before). He kept a close eye on us and wouldn’t let anyone get separated from the group. It felt very safe.
★★★★★Upon arriving the snowmobils were ready and waiting. They were powerful machines and some serious fun! The faster the better.... The ice cave was beautiful, located this year by our own guides.
