Mountaineers of Iceland · Langjökull east side, base camp below the glacier
Mountaineers of Iceland meets you at Gullfoss, drives you to base camp and puts you on your own 140 hp Yamaha Viper for an hour of faster, longer riding than the standard tours. It's for adults who have ridden before and found the usual single-file procession too slow.

Glacier Rush is the anti-procession tour. Instead of two people on a touring snowmobile at 20 to 30 km/h, every rider gets a single-seat Yamaha Viper, a 1,000 cc, 140 hp machine, and the guide picks a longer route with more speed. Group size is capped at 10, and on several reviewed trips it was smaller. Mountaineers of Iceland pitches it at riders with some experience on snowmobiles, ATVs or motorbikes.
You meet at the upper Gullfoss car park, 15 minutes before departure, and transfer to base camp by car, jeep or truck depending on conditions. The listing gives a 1-hour snowmobile tour, the same length as the standard trip, but you drive the whole hour yourself instead of half. That's the real value: per minute behind the handlebars it's not far off the shared tours.
The price, $422, is the steepest of the Gullfoss trips, and food isn't included. Only 14 reviews so far, all 5 stars, and the one complaint is the length: a March 2026 guest wished for "only 20-30 min more". Moderate fitness is required, and nobody under 18 or over 80 can ride.
Upper Gullfoss car park, outside the restaurant, about two hours' drive from Reykjavík.
By car, jeep or truck depending on the snow.
Overalls, gloves, helmet, hat and overshoes, then the guide sizes up the group's riding.
Your own Viper, a longer route and faster sections, with a short stop for photos.
Transfer down to the car park, about four hours after you met.
★★★★★The "Glacier Rush" experience was nice b/c we all got to drive our own snowmobile. It was nice that on our particular outing there were only 7(9) of us (5 of my family, 2 others, and Niko and Gabriel), so it seemed so personal, with Gabriel helping with photos even.
★★★★★The scenery alone is worth it, riding across a vast Icelandic glacier feels like being on another planet entirely.
★★★★★The snowmobiles were powerful and fast, and having the private tour meant we could really open up the throttle and enjoy the ride at our own pace.

No. The Yamaha Vipers are single-seat machines, so every rider drives their own for the whole hour.
The Vipers have about 140 hp, roughly double a standard touring snowmobile, and the guide opens up the pace when the group can handle it. Actual speed depends on visibility and snow.
Adults aged 18 to 80 with a valid driver's licence and moderate fitness. It's aimed at people who have ridden snowmobiles, ATVs or motorbikes before.
If you'd drive half the hour on a shared sled anyway, you get twice the time behind the handlebars and a small group for $171 more than the standard Gullfoss trip. See our prices guide.
