Snowmobile.is (Arctic Adventures) · Langjökull, Geldingafell base camp
Park behind the Geysir Centre on your own Golden Circle drive, hop in a super jeep to the glacier and ride a snowmobile for an hour, two people to a machine. For self-drivers it's the best value on the ice: small groups, good reviews and only 4.5 hours of your day.

Geysir is already on every Golden Circle route, which makes this the easiest way to add a snowmobile to a self-drive day. You leave the car behind the Geysir Centre, and a Snowmobile.is super jeep takes you up into the highlands to the base camp at Geldingafell, where you change into overalls, balaclava, goggles, gloves and a helmet.
The ride is the usual one hour, two people per snowmobile, with photo stops on top. What reviewers keep mentioning is how the guides handle the group: they move people around by driving skill so no queue forms, and they let confident riders go faster. Some groups end with hot chocolate and cake back at camp, guests report, though it isn't in the listing. Groups are capped at 32.
At $262 it's $11 more than the Gullfoss trip, for a meeting point about 30 minutes closer to Reykjavík, smaller groups and a 4.8 rating against 4.3. The catches are the same as everywhere on Langjökull: you need a licence to drive, solo riding costs extra, and the weather can call it off.
Park in the Geysir car park behind the Geysir Centre and find the Snowmobile.is super jeep.
Up the highland track to the Geldingafell base camp below the glacier.
Overall, balaclava, gloves, goggles and helmet, then a lesson on throttle, brakes and steering.
Follow the guide across the ice cap, stop for photos on top, swap drivers and ride back.
Return to the car park, 4.5 hours after you set off, with time left for Gullfoss.
★★★★★Not too many in the group and the guides were great at seeing everyone’s driving levels and moving people around so a queue didn’t form and people could go their own desired speed. Harder than I thought to steer but once I got the hang of it was exhilarating.
★★★★★We went on a tour for over an hour and got to see different areas of the glacier. If you’re more advanced, he did not hold you back from really driving the machines.
★★★★★When we reached the top, we stopped to take some beautiful pictures, and then Pessi randomly started a snowball fight! [...] Pessi welcomed us with hot chocolate and cakes to warm us up.
