Mountaineers of Iceland · Langjökull east side, via Gullfoss
A modified super jeep picks you up in Reykjavík, drives the Golden Circle and then goes off-road to Langjökull, where you get an hour on a snowmobile shared with one other person. Pick it for the small group and the jeep itself, which many guests rank above the coach tours.

Same glacier, same Mountaineers base camp as the Gullfoss trip, but you get there in a lifted super jeep with a driver-guide who stays with you all day. The jeep leaves Reykjavík at 9:00, and the order of stops changes with the light and the weather: some groups do Þingvellir first, others go straight to the glacier and pick up Geysir and Gullfoss on the way home. The listing gives about 30 minutes at each sight and two hours for Langjökull.
On the ice it's the standard ride: about an hour, two to a snowmobile, swapping at the halfway stop. Guests describe 25 minutes out and 25 back. Fast groups get to go faster, and the guides move nervous riders to the back of the line without fuss. The jeep groups are small, usually 6 to 15 people, guests report, though the whole departure can hold 50 across several vehicles.
The off-road leg is part of the fun and part of the risk. In deep snow the jeeps get stuck; reviewers describe being towed out and losing 45 minutes, and on the worst days the snowmobile part is called off. That's the right call on a storm day. Bring food: one group didn't stop anywhere with a café until about 3 pm.
Your super jeep collects you at a marked hotel bus stop. The round starts 30 minutes before the 9:00 departure.
A walk along the rift between the North American and Eurasian plates. Some days this comes last.
Off-road to base camp, suits and helmets on, a briefing, then about an hour on the snowmobile.
The waterfall and the Strokkur geyser, with time to eat at one of them.
Drop-off at your bus stop, usually between 6 and 8 pm.
★★★★★The snowmobiling was a highlight for me. I had never been snowmobiling before, and this was a thrill. After my initial nervousness, I got the hang of it and wanted to go faster and faster.
★★★★★We were not ever rushed, we were given clear instructions at each stop and left to spend time exploring ourselves. The Super Jeep was so comfortable and a treat in itself to be driven around in.
★★★★★At the snowmobiles I was pleasantly surprised to find that the snowsuits came in loads of sizes and I was given the right size without being asked.
